Dr. John Pedersen has more than 18 years experience as a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. John is widely published in peer-reviewed journals, covering many topics in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
He has extensive experience in post-weight loss body contouring, mommy makeovers and abdominal procedures. He also specializes in breast revision surgeries, such as release capsular, implant malposition, contracture and exchange of older generation implants.
Dr. Pedersen is this region’s innovator in direct to implant breast reconstruction using the Mentor memory-shaped implant both above and below the muscle. He is also the first and most experienced surgeon in Akron, Ohio when it comes to performing DIEP flap breast reconstruction.
John is currently on the Board of Directors and is Chief of Plastic Surgery at Akron General Hospital. As such, he is committed to the long-term comprehensive care and complete satisfaction of all of his patients.
Dr. Pedersen is also on staff as a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Northeastern Ohio Medical University (NEOMED).

John’s commitment to excellence began at The University of Michigan where he earned his Bachelor of Science and was placed on the Dean’s List four consecutive years. He went on to study at Wayne State Medical School and earned his MD in 1991.

Dr. John Pedersen was board certified in General Surgery in 1998 and became board-certified in Plastic Surgery in 2001 at which time he achieved the Alpha Omega Alpha honor.
In 1998, he completed a Microsurgery Fellowship to the prestigious Kristen M. Kleinert Institute in Louisville, Kentucky where he was a member of the first American hand transplant team.

John is the Founder and CEO of Breastoasis.org. Founded in Akron, Ohio, it is now a national organization (featured in In Style magazine October, 2011). Breastoasis has partnered with the international brand LeMystere and retailer Bloomingdale's in support of their annual breast cancer awareness initiative.
Dr. Pedersen is the Director of a Post-Bariatric Body Contouring Program and is an industry leader and innovator in this procedure.
He is also an instructor on the use of AlloDerm and SPY in breast reconstruction.
